More information about our Storz couplings:

Storz Lug distance:

Storz couplings feature two lugs (protruding ridges) on the outer circumference of the coupling.
These lugs are used to help twist and lock the coupling into place when connecting to another part of the system.
Lugs are usually evenly spaced around the circumference of the coupling.

Use a Caliper or Ruler:
Caliper: If you have a vernier caliper, this is the most accurate tool for measuring lug distance, especially for precision.
Ruler: Alternatively, a standard measuring ruler can be used, but it may be less accurate than a caliper.

Measure Lug-to-Lug Distance:
The lug distance is measured from the center of one lug to the center of the opposite lug.
If the coupling has multiple lugs, measure across any two opposite lugs.
If the coupling is designed with a single lug or dual lug, simply measure the distance between the center of the lug and the center of the opposite lug (this may involve measuring across 180 degrees of the coupling).

Forged Storz Couplings:

Forged Storz couplings are made from high-strength materials and are typically produced by shaping the material under high pressure. Forged Storz couplings can take up to 16 BAR working pressure.
This process results in a stronger, more durable coupling that can withstand demanding environments.
Forged versions are known for their excellent mechanical properties, making them ideal for high-pressure applications and industries that require superior strength and reliability.

Common Materials for Forged Storz Couplings:

  • Brass: Provides corrosion resistance and durability, making it suitable for both industrial and firefighting applications.
  • Aluminum: Lightweight and resistant to corrosion, making it ideal for portable equipment and environments where weight is a concern.
  • Stainless Steel: Known for its strength and resistance to corrosion, stainless steel is a popular choice for industries with high-stress environments or exposure to harsh chemicals.

Casted Storz Couplings:

Casted Storz couplings are produced by pouring molten metal into molds to form the desired shape. Casted Storz couplings can take up to 6 BAR working pressure.
While casted couplings may not have the same tensile strength as forged couplings, they are generally more cost-effective and can be made in complex shapes.
Casted couplings are often used in applications that do not require the extreme strength of forged couplings.

Common Materials for Casted Storz Couplings:

  • Brass: Offers a good balance of strength, corrosion resistance, and ease of machining, making it a common choice for general-purpose couplings.
  • Aluminum: Lightweight and resistant to rust, it is a popular option for casted couplings, especially in industries like firefighting where mobility and durability are key.

Common Types of Storz Couplings:

  • Female threaded Storz couplings
  • Storz hosetail
  • Male threaded Storz couplings
  • Storz reducers

Storz applications:

  • Firefighting: Storz couplings are frequently used in fire hose connections due to their ease of use and reliability in high-pressure scenarios.
  • Industrial Systems: Used in various industries for quick hose and pipe connections in environments that demand durability and safety.
  • Agriculture: Storz couplings are also common in irrigation systems and equipment used for water transfer and chemical handling.
